Transform Your Furniture with Table Top Epoxy

A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or a professional looking to upgrade your crafting game, this tutorial will guide you through the process of transforming your furniture with table top epoxy, step by step.

And when it comes to giving your furniture a stunning, personalized touch, Superclear Table Top Epoxy is the way to go.

Why Choose Superclear Table Top Epoxy?

Before we dive into the tutorial, let’s talk about why Superclear Table Top Epoxy is a great choice.

It’s renowned for its crystal-clear finish, high durability, and easy-to-use self-leveling properties, making it perfect even for beginners.

Plus, it’s UV resistant and certified food grade safe once fully cured, ideal for table tops, bar tops, and countertops.

What You’ll Need

1. Preparing Your Workspace and Furniture

Workspace Setup

  • Choose a well-ventilated area.
  • Lay down plastic sheeting or a drop cloth to protect your floor.
  • Ensure your table is stable and level.

Furniture Preparation

  • Sand the table top to remove any existing finish and create a texture for the epoxy to adhere to.
    • We suggest a final sand with at least 220-320 grit sandpaper.
    • This ensures that your table top epoxy pour will bond properly to the sanded surface.
  • Wipe away any dust post-sanding.
  • Clean the project surface thoroughly with Superclean Epoxy Cleaner.

2. Mixing the Epoxy

No Drill Mixers Allowed

We never ever recommend using a drill mixer with this product. Because Superclear is such a high viscosity, it’s like syrup, and it can easily trap air bubbles if mixed too vigorously.

3. Application Process

Seal Coat

  • Pour a thin layer of the mixed epoxy resin over the wood.
  • Use a spreader or a gloved hand to evenly distribute the epoxy.
  • You want this layer to be as thin as possible. The goal here is just to prevent any air from escaping into your thicker flood pour that will be done later on.

Relax & Wait

  • Let the epoxy cure for around 2-4 hours, until it has become hard & tacky to the touch.
  • Think of a sticky Waffle House countertop, that’s the feeling you’re looking for before you pour your flood coat.

Pouring the Flood Coat

  • Once the seal coat is tacky, mix another batch of Superclear Table Top Epoxy.
  • Pour the epoxy onto the surface and spread it evenly.
  • You can go up to 1/4” thick, however if you are allowing the resin to flow evenly over the project’s sides – expect about an 1/8” depth once finished leveling.
  • Feel free to remove bubbles with a torch or heat gun (use these tools sparingly).
  • Let it self-level and cure.

4. Finishing Touches

  • After the epoxy has fully cured, remove any drips with sandpaper.
  • If sanding was necessary for you, simply apply another thin seal coat of the epoxy to get back to that original glossy shine.

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean with Superclean Epoxy Cleaner.
  • Avoid placing hot items directly on the surface.
  • Reapply a maintenance coat if necessary, after a few years for a fresh look.
